Respirator Fit Testing Services
Hutzel & Associates provides professional respirator fit testing services to support employer compliance with OSHA respiratory protection requirements. Fit testing is a required element of an effective respiratory protection program for employees who use tight‑fitting respirators and is performed throughout Phoenix, Arizona, and the Southwest.
Our services are provided by experienced safety and industrial hygiene professionals and are designed to support regulatory compliance, worker protection, and defensible documentation.
When Respirator Fit Testing Is Required
OSHA requires respirator fit testing for employees who wear tight‑fitting respirators, including half‑mask and full‑face respirators. Fit testing is required:
• Prior to initial respirator use
• Whenever a different respirator facepiece is used
• At least annually
• When physical changes occur that could affect respirator fit (e.g., significant weight change, dental work, facial scarring)
These requirements are outlined in OSHA’s Respiratory Protection Standard, 29 CFR 1910.134.
Types of Respirator Fit Testing Performed
Hutzel & Associates provides respirator fit testing using OSHA‑accepted methods, including:
• Qualitative fit testing (e.g., saccharin or Bitrex® methods)
• Quantitative fit testing using appropriate instrumentation, when applicable
The fit testing method is selected based on respirator type, workplace conditions, and regulatory requirements.
Respirators Commonly Fit Tested
